Test Platform
We downloaded, installed,
and tested
DVDFAB Platinum to run on two test computers. One
computer was "Home-Brewed" with an Athlon AMD 64 X2 4800 Dual-Core
processor running at 2.4GHz, 1GB of memory, 100GB hard drive, and a
Sony DRU-510A DVD/RW drive 32X (CD) and 12X (DVD). The other computer,
a Gateway E06500D, with an Intel Pentium(R) running at 3GHz, 1GB of
memory, 100GB hard drive, and a Plextor PX-708A DVD/RW drive (40X (CD)
and 12X (DVD).
Test Results
The installation was
flawless on both test computers. The original DVD movie was "Planet
of the Apes" (2001) starring Mark Walberg. The movie runtime was
119 minutes. Upon inserting the original DVD movie and
pressing the "Start" button, 16 minutes lapsed until we were prompted
to insert blank DVD media. The DVD movie burning process was less than
17 minutes. We then inserted the copied DVD movie in our DVD player and
the copy quality was that of the original to include all of the extras
and menus options we selected. The same process was perform on our second test
computer and it took 16 minutes to copy the movie and
approximately 18 minutes to burn the movie to DVD.

DVDFab User Interface - Full Disc Copy
Upon inserting the DVD movie and
launching
DVDFAB Platinum
we were presented with a slick User Interface. Even though
DVDFAB Platinum
had a Wizard that could walk a through the process, we elected to
copy the Entire DVD including all titles and menus. We left the
default "Select Source" setting. You would select "Disk Folder" if you
already had a DVD ripped on your hard drive.

DVDFab Detects Inserted DVD - DVD
Drive Selected as the Source
On the next screen we had an option to
select either a Black Screen or DVDFab Screen. We kept the default
setting.

Kept Default Settings
Next, we selected the DVD Writer
output and clicked the Go button.

Selecting DVD Writer Option
DVDFAB Platinum
begins copying the movie.

DVDFab Copy and Transcoding Process
After 16 minutes
DVDFAB Platinum
prompted us to
insert a blank DVD. (It did not automatically eject the DVD)

Clicking OK initiated the
Writing/Burning of the DVD.

DVD Burning Progress Window
In about 17 minutes,
DVDFAB Platinum
ejected the burned DVD. When placed in a DVD player, the movie
contained all of the extras and played beautifully.
DVDFAB Platinum
from
start to finish produced a high-quality DVD in 33 minutes. Not as fast
as
1Click DVD Copy Pro but well under and
hour.

Pros
DVDFAB Platinum
user graphical interface was simple and
easy to use. We particularly liked the wizard. Produced a high-quality
dvd copy.
Cons
While
DVDFAB Platinum contained many features, we felt that it had
too many windows one had to click through to set up dvd copy
parameters. This could get confusing. In other words, there is a
learning curve. Yet, after becoming familiar with the program, the
comfort zone diminishes.
Quality of Copy
Since no compression is used, the final copy (Audio and Video) was an
exact copy of the original.
Customer/Technical Support
We emailed
Fengtae Software
customer support and within an hour, a response was received. Their website
has an excellent customer support system in place as well as an
excellent forum.
Summary
Overall,
DVDFAB Platinum from Fengtae Software is a very good DVD
copying product. It is a very easy program to navigate through, and
the copied DVD is exactly like the original. Once you become familiar
with the program then you will know exactly where to go for the
feature that you are looking for.
