This section will teach you everything
you need to know about burning commercial DVD's! It's really not a
complicated process, you just need to be able to follow directions,
and you need to possess the required software. You will be provided
with links to the necessary software, just click on the banner ad for
the software, or the hyperlink of the software name, and you will be
taken to a page to download it free or purchase it (if needed)
There are 3 steps to the DVD Copy
process...
1. Extracting the DVD to your computer
(Ripping)
2. Compressing the movie so it will fit
on a DVD (Transcoding)
3. Burn the
movie to a DVD (Burning)
The preferred method is to use
MacTheRipper for extraction (Ripping) and
Toast 8 or Popcorn 2 for the
compressing and burning phase because they do it all in one step. Toast
8 and Popcorn 2 are by far the industry leader in DVD
compression and burning by making the process very easy and they take
drastically less time than the other methods. Let's get started.
Step 1 - Extracting with
MacTheRipper (Ripping)
- Download
MacTheRipper here. It's Free!
-
Create a
directory called "Movie" in your Movies Folder if you are going to
use DVD2OneX.
***IMPORTANT*** This folder is for temporary use only. You
must delete the contents of this
folder before using DVD2OneX for
another movie.
-
Insert your commercial DVD
-
Open
MacTheRipper
-
MacTheRipper will automatically detect the DVD in your drive
and select it.
-
Under the MODE tab, select either
Full Disk Extraction or Main Feature Only
-
Full Disk extracts the menu and all
the extras
-
Main Feature Only will only extract
the movie, no extras
-
Click on GO!
-
You may need to select where you
extract the DVD to. Extract it to your Movies Directory, not the
Movies you just created.
-
This process will take about 15
minutes.
-
The result will be a folder (usually
with the name of the DVD you just extracted) in your Movies
Directory that is about 7.x GB large and will have 2 folders in it,
one of which is a VIDEO_TS folder
-
Proceed
to Step 2 by clicking on the compression method you will be using on
the left.
-
If you are using
Roxio Toast
8 or Roxio Popcorn Step 2 will be your final step.
-
This is the preferred method.
-
If you are using
DVD2OneX you have 2
more steps, and it is more complicated.
Step 2 - Download and Install Roxios
Toast
Unfortunately
Toast is not
free. You can download it by clicking on the link or banner below.
After you have installed it, proceed to the last step which combines
the compressing (Transcoding) and burning steps.

Step 3 - Compressing & Burning
with Roxio Toast 7
See the image below for illustration.
1. Open Toast 7
A. Select the VIDEO tab.
B. Select DVD-Video from VIDEO_TS from the panel on the
left.
C. Select Fit to DVD Compression if you are using a
standard single-layer DVD.
D. Select the VIDEO_TS folder using the "Select" button in
the Toast window.
E. Choose your copy options with the "Copy Options" button
in the Toast window. This will allow you
to choose menus or main feature
only. Toast will now tell you the quality of your video.
F. If you are not ready to burn your movie to a DVD you can
select the "Save as Disk Image " option in
the
menu bar under File. This will save the movie to your computer for
burning or viewing at a later date.
*NOTE* If you want to watch the
movie... simply double click the image file and it will mount as a
drive on your desktop. Open DVD
Player, click Open DVD Media, and select the VIDEO_TS folder
in the newly mounted image file.
G. To burn... click on the RED
button and that's it!
